Let’s be honest, 2020 has been a bit of a disappointment. It all feels a bit damp, dreary, and like we can’t wait for it to be over. And now we have another lockdown putting a dampener on November, so it’s safe to say that everyone is feeling a bit deflated. You might even feel like your business is in a rut, unable to grow, and leaving you feeling bored. Don’t worry – all of us are in the same boat there. But if you want to not just survive, but thrive during lockdown, you need to get excited again. To put the fireworks back in your business, find new ways to adapt to the current situation, and feel that passion for what you do again. And to help you out, we have a few suggestions.
Get Back To The Start
You started this business for a reason. After a few years it’s easy to forget that, but if you’re feeling a bit stuck, it’s time to remind yourself of what drove you down this path in the first place. It can sometimes be easier to get a handle on your feelings when they’re set out in black and white, so try writing down the reasons you started the business, and how you felt about it right in the beginning. Just the act of writing this down can help you reconnect with those feelings, and bring back some of that enthusiasm. Once you have that spark back, you can go back to the drawing board with fresh eyes, and come up with some new ideas to keep your business going during lockdown.
Pinpoint The Problem
OK, so the pandemic and the lockdown are likely the big problems on your board. We know that. But sit yourself down and ask yourself, is there something else behind your low business mood at the moment? Are you feeling bored because you’ve drifted away from your original purpose? Are you working with the wrong kinds of clients? Have you got bogged down in the day-to-day running of things, so you can’t enjoy Now is the perfect time to regroup and get back on track. Work out what you really want to do, what new activities you could do to make the most of lockdown, and how you could make your life easier within your business. A VA is a great way to do this – they can take on all those necessary but routine (read: boring) jobs, and leave you to focus on the parts of your business that truly ignite your interest.
Allow Yourself To Dream
You have all the time in the world right now, so take some of it to sit back and dream. If you could do anything with your business, what would you do? What changes would you make that might be too difficult when you’ve got lots of other things going on? You know, those big, ‘if only’ dreams? Most of us are going to have another quiet month, so this is the perfect time to make some of those big changes, and potentially redirect your business so that it looks more like your big dreams. Think about the things that excite you now, and the projects that really get your motor running. Break those big ideas down into smaller tasks, and you’ll be amazed how easy it is to achieve.
Talk To Passionate People
Here’s some good news – you don’t have to try and regenerate that excitement for your business all by yourself. You have a network of people around you to help. So use your existing contacts, social media and networking to find people in your field who are excited about what they do, and talk to them about what makes them love their work. Watch some inspirational speakers, talk to some business coaches (they’re fantastic at being positive) and try to immerse yourself in that good feeling. Positivity can be infections, so surround yourself with it, and you’ll start to feel it again yourself.
And remember – all businesses go through ups and downs, and right now more businesses are in the lows than in the highs. We are all in separate boats in the same storm, and you are not alone. But just because the situation is bad, doesn’t mean you can’t make the best of it. If you’re feeling stuck in a rut with your business, don’t be afraid to ask for help. At Your Admin Hub, we’re always here to help you out, bounce ideas off, take on your annoying jobs, or just be your cheerleader on the sidelines.
